Washing machine - Replace drain pump

Difficulty: Moderate
Estimated time: ± 30 minutes

Do you want to replace the drain pump of your washing machine, but don't know how? Using this step-by-step plan, you'll have your drain pump replaced in no time!

What do you need?

Always start first:

  • Unplug the drain pump.
  • Turn off the tap.
  • Tip: When disassembling the old part, take regular pictures, so you can easily see how to reassemble the new part.

Replacing the washing machine drain pump:

1. Lay the washing machine on its side.
The drain pump is located at the bottom of the washing machine near the flap you see on the front of the washing machine. Carefully lay the washing machine on its side so that you can see into the bottom of the washing machine. If you cannot, you can carefully remove the bottom plate by unscrewing the screws.

2. Unscrew the old drain pump.
You should see the drain pump attached with two plugs. Disconnect the plugs by simply pulling them loose. You can now unscrew the pump to the left from where it is attached. Sometimes you need to first release a lock. You can do this with a screwdriver.

3. Place the new drain pump.
Place the new pump in the same place as where the old one was attached. Tighten it by turning it to the right. The pump will then snap back into place in the latch. Reattach the plugs to the pump.

4. Set the washing machine back upright.
If you have loosened the bottom plate, reattach it to the appliance and set the washing machine back upright. Well done, the drain pump of your washing machine is replaced!
