Vacuum cleaner - Replacing the cable reel

Difficulty: Moderate
Estimated time: ± 20 minutes

Do you want to replace the cable reel of your vacuum cleaner, but you don't know exactly how to do it? No problem, with this step-by-step plan you'll have your vacuum cleaner cable reel replaced in no time!

What you need?

Always start first:

  • Unplug the power cord from the wall socket.
  • Tip: When disassembling the old part, take regular pictures, so you can easily see how to reassemble the new part.

Replace vacuum cleaner cable reel:

1. Remove the protective cover from the motor.
Open the flap or lid of your vacuum cleaner. Remove the dust bag and filters from the vacuum cleaner. Remove the protective cap that surrounds the motor. To do this, loosen the screws and remove the hood.

2. Remove the cable reel from the unit.
Disconnect the cable reel/net cord wiring where it attaches to the motor. You may want to take a picture first to make sure you mount the new cable reel correctly later. Remove the cable reel from the unit.

3. Insert the new cable reel into the unit.
Attach the new cable reel in the same way the old one was attached. Then reattach the wiring. If necessary, look at the picture taken to do this.

4. Replace the protective cover.
Replace the protective cover of the motor and screw these screws back in. Place the filters and dust bag back in the vacuum cleaner and close the door. The vacuum cleaner is ready for use again!

If the retractor is not working properly:

  • It can sometimes help to clean the power cable completely. Therefore, unroll the cable completely (carefully) and clean it with a cloth.
  • You can also open the vacuum cleaner and clean the coil thoroughly.
  • Spray silicone spray on the shaft to make the coil mechanism run smoothly again. Important when using silicone spray: do not turn the device on again immediately if you use this spray! This can be dangerous.

Tips for preventing damage:

  • Gently guide the cable back in by hand after using the vacuum cleaner.
  • It is not wise to roll out the cord all the way to the end, as this can damage the connection at the coil (coiling mechanism). Therefore, put a colored sticker or tape on the cord when you are almost at the end. This way you know how far you can roll out the power cord.
