Tumble dryer - Replace time switch

Difficulty: Moderate
Estimated time: ± 30 minutes

Want to replace the timer on your clothes dryer? Replacing the timer on a clothes dryer is a snap!

What do you need?

  • Time switch
  • Screwdriver

Always first:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the wall socket.
  • Tip: When disassembling the old part, take regular pictures, so you can easily see how to reassemble the new part.

In some cases, a time switch must be ordered specially. If you want to order a timer, you can ask our customer service about the appropriate timer for your dryer.

Replacing the tumble dryer timer:

1. Pull the button of the timer off.
Carefully remove the button from the timer. This will be a little easier on some appliances than others. Be careful with this, because you don't want to break the knob.

2. Detach the timer.
The timer is on the back of the control. With some dryers it is easier to unscrew the control panel and back panel. You then look right at the wiring. In some cases, the top plate of the clothes dryer needs to come off. To take this top plate off the dryer, you need to unscrew the screws on the back of the dryer. Disconnect the old timer by unscrewing the screws. Also disconnect the wiring from the timer.

3. Put in the new timer.
Attach the wiring to the new timer. Insert the new time switch in the correct place and tighten the screws.

4. Replace the housing.
Replace the housing and tighten the screws. Push the knob back onto the new timer. Well done, you've replaced your clothes dryer's timer!

The correct number is the type or model number and NOT the serial number. The model number is a series of numbers and/or letters. Sometimes the model number contains a hyphen (-) or a forward slash (/).
